There are 8 standard classes in Baldur's Gate 1. Baldur's Gate 2 added 3 new classes as well as adding 3 different "kits" to 8 of the original 8 classes. The Enhanced Editions also adds 7 more kits and another class as well. Each kits takes the standard class and confers some extra bonuses at the cost of some penalties (in most cases).
