8/10. A Nutshell Review: Crows: Episode 0. DICK STEEL 22 March 2008. Directing a movie based on a manga isn't something new for Japanese auteur Takashi Miike, who also adapted the ultra-violent Ichi the Killer for the big screen. However, with Crows: Episode 0, gone are the extreme violence, though it still retains some flavour normally found.

Crows Zero is a film based off the manga "Crows" by Hiroshi Takahashi. While I have not read the manga, I gather that the film is something of a prequel to it. As I have not read it, I can't say how well the film captures the characters or if it provides insight that was unknown before hand. I will say that it has MANY characters, and at times.

Crows Zero spawned two sequels, a spinoff manga series (not to be confused with the manga it was originally based upon), and a video game with another reportedly in development. If you like the stylized action of Scott Pilgrim but hated all the self-awareness, this is the movie for you.

Film Review Crows Zero (2007) HNN

This film is two hours of guys being dudes and hanging out, guys and dudes having masculine sentimental moments with one another, and guys punching dudes to the sound of delirious rock and roll tunes.. Sadly, Crows Zero somewhat drags around the 70 minute mark. The movie suddenly decides to drop…
